Solving a Century-Old Problem for California
Steel is integral to the world around us. Its strength and durability have made it essential in creating nearly all types of infrastructure, from bridges and hospitals to stadiums and skyscrapers. On average, California consumes over 1 million tons of steel per year, yet not one of those tons are produced here in the state.
Historically the manufacturing and utilization of steel has wreaked havoc on the environment. While improvements to the industry have been made over the last few decades, such as carbon offset credits, no manufacturer has approached it from a top-down perspective with a focus on process emissions.
Pacific Steel Group has set out to build the cleanest steel mill in the U.S. and the first steel mill in California in over 50 years. Instead of relying on imported products, we’ll manufacture our steel with recycled scrap metal sourced right here in our state. By implementing the best available control technologies, we’ll reduce the environmental impacts of steel manufacturing, all while bringing hundreds of jobs back to California.
Introducing Our Mojave Micro Mill
In order to make the biggest impact possible, we knew we needed the right community to site our mill. That’s why we chose Mojave, California; a community just outside of Los Angeles.
Mojave is located in Kern County, a county rich in renewable energy and opportunity. Pacific Steel Group’s Mill looks forward to calling Mojave home and bringing necessary jobs to the local community for decades to come.
